The external force that pushes us through our life is our thoughts and our actions.
For those of us who enjoy this type of self-awareness, we can choose to become self aware of what we are doing, and stop doing it. But for those of us who don’t like this kind of self-awareness, we will have to stop what we’re doing every single time we realize we need to change, and we’ll have to do it in different ways every time.
One of the most common patterns that we see in people who are not self-aware is that they get stuck in a rut. They know what they want to do and they just keep going around in circles, never seeing any other direction. Our brains and bodies are highly adaptive, so we can usually choose to act in ways that are good for us. But we can also act in ways that are not good for us.
We have a tendency to act in ways that are “bad”, because we don’t know what we want. We’re always trying to do something that we know we don’t want to do. We often blame other people or circumstances for our own actions. This is where we can get stuck, because our brains are highly adaptive and we often don’t know what we want.
But that is exactly why we are at an advantage in this evolutionary game, because we can always change our ways. We can choose to act in ways that are good for us. And for some people that is just what they want.
