This post is the second in a three-part series of posts about women’s health, specifically the topics of breastfeeding, pregnancy, and post-partum, as well as how to stay healthy while you’re pregnant.
This is an area that has been under-construction in the medical field since before I was born. There are so many products available that it’s often hard to know where you should begin. For instance, I’m assuming that you have to go through a period of learning about how to breastfeed in order to breastfeed effectively. There’s often a lot of misinformation out there, as well as some very expensive products that you may have to use up your insurance to get.
I’ve heard it suggested that breast milk production is something that can be done effectively during pregnancy, but the reality is that it can be difficult (and in some cases impossible) to keep the milk flowing in a healthy way. As a general rule, if your milk production is below 20 c, then you should not breastfeed. If it’s above 20 but below 40 c, then you should at least try to pump when you sleep to help prevent cravings and sleep deprivation.
